So honored Scout Books (custom notebooks Made from 100% Recycled Papers in Portland, Oregon) did a case study on the custom mega Scout Book I recently designed for the Teach For America 25th Anniversary Summit. Thanks Guys!
SCREEN PRINTING
My TFA Team and I recently went to an amazing screen printing workshop at The Gowanus Print Lab. The lab Is a community screen printing studio in the Gowanus neighborhood in Brooklyn, offering classes that breakdown the step by step magic of screen printing. Their staff and instructors are a passionate, knowledgeable and friendly group of print makers, designers and craft-nerds. We had a blast watching our drawings/designs turn into t-shirts, tote bags, posters and pretty much anything I could get my hands on to print on. I highly recommend checking them out next time you need to freshen your wardrobe or just want to get creative in an amazing studio full of artists and all around awesome folks.
MEDITATION
I recently took a 2 day course in vedic meditation with Charlie Knoles (who has been meditating since he was 4 and taught over 7,000 people how to meditate) thats worth bragging about. I have been studying various kinds of meditation for the past 8 months and have finally come across one that works for me! What a relief, I thought something was wrong with me... This is something EVERYONE should be doing, I highly recommend finding a practice thats right for you and sticking with it, the benefits are endless. Charlie's method is simple and I thought I'd share in case anyone else was in the same boat as me, check out Charlie's site and interview on the Rich Roll Podcast to get a better idea of his teachings. Happy Meditating!
GLORIA!
So grateful I was able to see one of my all time hero's, Gloria Steinem in the flesh last night at the New York Public Library. It was a live convo with Roberta Kaplan and Q+A from the audience. It was so inspiring to experience how humble and down to earth she is in addition to how much ass she is kicking at 81 years old!! There were so many young women in the audience I left feeling rejuvenated and ready to fight the system.
Attorney Roberta Kaplan landed a major victory for the LGBTQ movement by successfully arguing for the repeal of the Defense of Marriage Act before the Supreme Court. Gloria Steinem has championed women for decades, and immeasurably advanced women’s rights. At LIVE, they come together to launch their new books: Kaplan’s Then Comes Marriage: United States v. Windsor and the Defeat of DOMA, and Steinem’s My Life on the Road. Check out the full convo here
On the Grid :: The designer's neighborhood guide
Such a cool idea and so beautifully designed! On the Grid was created by Hyperakt, a social impact design agency based in Brooklyn. It's a simple, user-friendly designers guide to share neighborhood gems with the rest of the world. Hundreds of creative companies and designers around the world have joined in on the fun by representing their own neighborhoods. On the Grid is growing fast, with new cities and neighborhoods launching weekly! Check it out.
Simply Beautiful
Photographer, Paul Octavious has beautifully captured Ann Hamiltons: the event of a thread exhibit in this quick video accompanied by one of my all time favorite songs by Sufjan Stevens - Redford ( for Yia -Yia and Pappou). I came across this video a couple years ago and find every time this song comes on my headphones I think of this video and get a warm fuzzy feeling inside. Check it out.
WORKING REMOTELY
Need a change of scenery? I stumbled upon Workfrom while trying to figure where I'm supposed to go get some work done now that my favorite hideaway to bust out some serious productivity, the Rose Reading Room in the New York public library, is closed for restoration until fall of 2017, total bummer. Now I have workfrom to hold me over until then, use Workfrom to discover the best coffee shops, bars, coworking spaces and other work-friendly places in cities and towns everywhere. Discover hidden gems, local favorites and otherwise hard to find workspaces. You’ll see WiFi speeds, access to power outlets and other important info about places before you go. Help others by recommending work-friendly spaces you find and enjoy the benefits of inside information, deals and community.
For Real
Came across this on the internet, I don't know who made it but I love it.
